She first studied printing technology at Chemnitz University of Technology and then worked as a puppet designer at the Dresden State Puppet Theater. At the same time, she attended evening classes at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. From 1990 to 1996, she studied art and design with a focus on painting and fine ceramics under Prof. Dieter Crumbiegel at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences; in addition, she completed a degree in multimedia design in Berlin from 1999 to 2000. 

Tischer’s works have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Germany and abroad, including at the Inselgalerie, Galerie Parterre, and Galerie Pankow (Berlin), at the Tapetenwerk in Leipzig, the Kunstverein Schwedt, and internationally in Paris and Goluchów. In 2019, she was an artist-in-residence in Santa Barbara, California; other study visits took her to Mexico, San Francisco, Milan, Havana, and Tel Aviv, among other places.

Born in Upper Lusatia, Beate Tischer explores in her series of works the imagined shadows of former industrial sites as traces of change and personal memory.

In atmospheric oil paintings, pictorial spaces emerge—somewhere between construction and dissolution—that seek not so much to document as to sensitize the viewer to what remains of places and architectures, and to what is being reshaped in the process of transition.
